Staff Conductor and Musical Director: Carol Davies Carol Davies BA DipEd was appointed Musical Director and Conductor in Autumn 2004. A native of Pontrhydygroes Carol has been heavily involved in music since her school days in Tregaron receiving vocal training from Redvers Llewelyn and piano tuition from Roy Bohana and later from Charles Clement. She has had considerable experience and success as an operatic soloist and represented Wales in the Cinzano Scholarship awards reaching the final round at Covent Garden. Carol has also won 7 first prizes in the mezzo-soprano section at the National Eisteddfod including the Junior Blue Ribbon. As a Conductor she has numerous prizes withs choirs and groups, mainly at the Urdd National Eisteddfodd. Accompanist: David Evans David Evans is a native of the village of Llandinam in Mid-Wales. He was awarded the Apprenticeship for Agriculture Craftsman Certificate from Montgomeryshire College of Further Education in 1980. Following 12 years employment in the agriculture industry he trained for a career in the NHS qualifying as an Operating Department Practitioner at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. He is currently employed by Ceredigion & Mid-Wales NHS Trust. David obtained his Diploma in Music from the Open University and following his appointment as Organist to the Church of St Michael & All Angels Aberystwyth, he was awarded membership of the Royal College of Organists. During the early 1980's David was deputy accompanist to Llanwnog & District Mixed Choir; he has been the accompanist to Aberystwyth Male Voice Choir since 1989. Deputy Conductor: Glyn Jones Glyn was one of the founder members of the Aberystwyth Post Office Gleemen Choir in 1962, under the direction of James Morse. Because of his singing experience which he had aquired from a young age, Glyn was entrusted with the task of setting up the Second Tenor section and he became leader of that section. In 1966, Glyn moved with his work to Shrewsbury where once more he became involved in the formation of a similar venture but this time with the Electricity Board. He returned to Aberystwyth in 1980 and naturally rejoined the choir and has been an active member ever since. He has been the choir's Deputy Conductor since 1988. Deputy Accompanist: Mary Jones-Morris Mary has been the accompanist of Côr Ysgol Gymraeg (Welsh School Choir), Aberystwyth for over twenty years. During that period, the choir gained numerous successes at both the Urdd National Eisteddfod and the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. She has had the pleasurable experience of accompanying the choir in concerts with harpist Catrin Finch and soloist Shan Cothi, also on Bryn Tefel's television programme. Mary also enjoys accompanying young soloists and instrumentalists in eisteddfodau, concerts and music exams. For over forty years she has been one of the organists of Morfa Chapel Aberystwyth. Mary also appreciates the opportunity of accompanying the Aberystwyth Male Voice Choir in the absence of the regular accompanist David Evans. |
